‘A deep, fleshy wine of real charm and appeal’ is what Huon Hooke had to say about the Wirra Wirra Church Block Cabernet Shiraz Merlot 2014.
This is a much loved Mclaren Vale wine and over the last 4 decades, it has become one of Australia’s favourites. Predominately cabernet (51%) blended with shiraz (31%) and merlot (12%) the result is a modern mix of blackcurrant and plum fruits, balanced with fine sandy tannins and cedar oak. It’s full-bodied and juicy with a refined style and texture. You can read the full tasting notes here.
Serving suggestions include beef, mushroom and red wine pie or slow braised lamb shoulder.
Halliday gives it a special value star and 91 points stating that ‘in terms of widely-available reds, this takes some beating on the value front’.
Gary Walsh of the Wine Front hands over 88 points calling it ‘solid’.
Vivino users give it 3.7 stars calling it ‘such a good go-to’.

In the value stakes, it doesn’t disappoint, retailing for a reasonable $22 from the Wirra Wirra cellar door. With this offer, it will set you back just $15.20 in any 6. A small discount from the real price of $17.99, but it’s a great value for money buy, so we’re pretty pumped to see it discounted at all. And it’s still a $6 discount off RRP. We doubt it will stay at this price for long!
This offer gets a solid 3.5 stars for value and quality.
This wine has charm, appeal, elegance and balance and it’s also got a great price tag. It’s the whole package!
