I shared a great bottle of Merlot and some delicious Thai food with a girlfriend a few weeks ago and it got me thinking that Merlot is an underrated “go to” variety. It’s normally smooth, soft and full-bodied, and we drank the whole bottle because it was just so easy to drink!
The Tahbilk One Million Cuttings Merlot 2014, is a fine example of an easy drinking merlot. Crafted from 100% Merlot grapes, from vineyards in the King Valley and Limestone Coast region, this wine has everything you want from top notch Aussie Merlot. It is produced by a Halliday 5 star winery, which was also awarded the 2016 Wine Companion Winery of the Year.
The wine displays a soft, supple palate of blackberries and ripe plums, balanced with fine tannins. It is plump and luscious with a luxurious mouth feel that would match well with a number of different foods. The winery suggests grilled chops – veal, pork or lamb, but my personal favourite would be pork ribs. Alternatively, if you have a local Italian down the road, this wine would pair well with anything from the menu. Belissimo!
It retails for around the $20.00, but Cracka Wines have been selling it at about $15 for the past few months, which we’ve used as our Real Price.
Now they have reduced that price even further to a cracking $9.99. That’s definitely good value for money and I’ve given this offer 3 stars. I might even buy some myself.
If you are looking for price and quality comparison the 2015 Tahblik Merlot sells for $17.95 direct from the winery and we would expect it to be pretty similar in taste and quality. It is labelled an easy-to-like wine and decidedly food friendly.
A $10 easy to drink Merlot for your next BYO restaurant outing or to enjoy during a quiet night in. I’m sold.
Don’t wait around as this is a limited time offer.
