Freixenet Vintage Cava 2013 is a stylish Spanish sparkling wine. Based in Catalonia, NE Spain, and founded in the 19th century, Freixenet remains a family business.
Cava is finer than Champagne although it’s made the same way. It’s less sweet than Prosecco and not as nutty as Vintage Champagne. It’s a blend of Macabeo, Xarello and Parellada varieties.
This wine is a very good everyday example of an easy to drink bubbles. It’s fresh, crisp and dry. You’ll get tropical flavours of melon, apple and a touch of citrus. The bubble is fine and well integrated and the finish is persistent. This is a great aperitif style wine or can be served alongside seafood and chicken dishes.
This is some crowd pleaser. Vivino users give it 3.5/5 stars which one reviewer commenting “Somewhere in there’s a bit of melon and cashew, but the dryness is the landslide victory in this battle for supremacy!”
It gets 4.5 stars from Tesco customers in the UK, which is the main market for this wine. It is also included in Matthew Jukes’ Top 10 Sparkling Wines for 2012 (he is one of the most influential wine writers in the UK).
The 2007 vintage also won a bronze at the 2009 International Wine Challenge.
